How We Do It

CE Playbooks are interactive, web-based tools designed to
improve, standardize, and implement Civil Engineering
processes across a dispersed workforce.

Our Mission

Our mission is to build a community of knowledge and organize the Civil Engineer Enterprise’s Playbook information to be universally accessible and useful, while modernizing and reviving Playbooks that are aligned with CE education and training institutes.

Current State

There are currently over 60 playbooks in inventory housed on the CE Playbooks website.

Playbooks are built using the expertise of our civil engineers at installation, AF Civil Engineer Center, and headquarters levels, and include roles and responsibilities, step-by-step instructions, job aids, process flows, and links to relevant laws, regulations, and policies. Some playbooks feature enhancements, such as interactive battle rhythm graphics, video tutorials, and Excel-based analytical tools.

Keeping Playbooks Current & Up-to-Date

In order to ensure that Playbooks remain current, they must be reviewed/updated and approved by AOs/owners at a minimal of every 4 years. Playbooks that are not reviewed/updated at a minimal of every 4 years will be archived at the end of the 4th year until reviewed/updated.

Example: If a Playbook was published in 2020, then it needs to reviewed and either confirmed as “no update needed” (resulting in only a cover date change to 2024) OR identified as needing an update, thus starting the updating process internally or with Tech Writing support. Failure to do either will result in the 2020 Playbook being Archived in January of 2025 until a review/update is completed.
