How We Do It
Civil Engineer (CE) Playbooks are formalized manuals written by Airmen Engineer subject matter experts that provide "how-to" information and guidance for the performance of major CE job functions.
About Us
The CE Playbooks platform broadens the playbook experience and is designed to transform how the CE community accesses, implements, and advances operational best practices, directly supporting warfighter capabilities and resilience. Through innovative knowledge management and employing advanced technologies such as AI, we seek to ensure the CE community remains at the forefront of operational excellence.
Our Mission
Our mission is to empower and arm Air Force Civil Engineers with mission-critical knowledge through digitized, current, and accessible resources created by subject matter experts. By modernizing how technical expertise is captured and shared, we aim to enhance operational readiness and effectiveness of Civil Engineers deployed worldwide.
Current State
There are currently over 60 playbooks in inventory housed on the CE Playbooks website.
Playbooks are built using the expertise of our civil engineers at installation, AF Civil Engineer Center, and headquarters levels, and include roles and responsibilities, step-by-step instructions, job aids, process flows, and links to relevant laws, regulations, and policies. Some playbooks feature enhancements, such as interactive battle rhythm graphics, video tutorials, and Excel-based analytical tools.
Playbook Technical Writing
The CE Playbooks Technical Writing team offers customized support for creating new playbooks or assisting existing action officers in updating theirs.
To keep playbooks up-to-date, they must be reviewed, updated, and approved by AOs or owners at least once every four years. Any playbooks not updated within this timeframe will be archived at the end of the fourth year and remain so until they are reviewed and updated.
